Confirm the symptom
A black screen can mean no AC/DC power to the monitor, no video signal, failed backlight, failed monitor electronics or a machine that never completed boot. Listen for game audio and watch other indicators before declaring the LCD dead.
Photograph any faint image visible with a flashlight, startup flash or intermittent behavior. Those details help distinguish backlight problems from a missing signal.
Record every identifier
Capture the display manufacturer, exact model, panel label, input connectors, power connector and mounting dimensions. Screen diagonal alone is not enough.
Touchscreen machines may have a separate touch controller and cable. Record those parts independently.
Measure mounting, not just glass
Replacement panels can share a nominal size but place mounting tabs, buttons and connectors differently. Measure the metal chassis and bracket points before shopping.
If an adapter bracket is used, document it rather than assuming it came from the factory.
Preserve the original
Keep the original display and brackets even when you install a modern substitute. Future restoration or troubleshooting may depend on information printed on the old hardware.
Avoid cutting original harnesses when adapters can make a reversible connection.
Test after installation
Verify cold boot, stable image, touch alignment if present, brightness and heat after the machine has run for a while. A replacement that only works with the door open or after reseating a connector is not a finished repair.
